Jazz Vespers
February 3, 2019 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
This month: The Mike Mullin Trio
From ancient times, there has been some sort of reverence or thanksgiving made to mark the end of the day. The service of Vespers is late afternoon or early evening prayer, one of the nine “daily offices” of the Benedictine monasteries. Vespers celebrates the lighting of the lamps as evening descends, and has been called “the hour of peace of heart and serenity.”
Jazz Vespers is a new form of this ancient and universal tradition. Vespers at All Saints is a time when people can gather to chase away the shadows of the coming night or the day that’s been, seek comfort and sustenance, renew energy for the coming days, or find peace for an hour or so from an all too present world. All while enjoying some of the best Jazz that Ottawa has to offer.
In the lovely Chapel of the Holy Spirit at All Saints’ Anglican Church Westboro, we hear how these musicians interpret the centuries, listen to prayers, readings, and hear words to inspire the mind and spirit.
If you need further information, please call 613-725-9487, or email our Jazz Vespers Coordinator, Elizabeth Brown.
Jazz Vespers is held the first Sunday of each month at 4:30 pm, from October through June, unless otherwise noted.
