Movies with Meaning
May 22, 2019 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Dinner: 6:00 p.m., in Steacy Hall
Movie: 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel
This month’s movie will be Green Book, a 2018 American biographical comedy-drama film. In 1962, Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South. They must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humour, they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.
As always, dinner will be served at promptly at 6:00 p.m. in Steacy Hall, which allows time to converse with fellow participants over dinner before the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. If you plan to come for dinner, please register by phoning or emailing the ASW office at 613-725-9487 or office@allsaintswestboro.com by noon on Friday May 17th. If you are not able to attend at the last minute, please also inform the church office. There is no requirement to pre-register if you are just coming for the movie. The cost of dinner and movie is $10.00 or the cost for just the movie is $3.00.
