Movies with Meaning

May 22, 2019 @ 6:00 pm 10:00 pm

Dinner: 6:00 p.m., in Steacy Hall
Movie: 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel

This month’s movie will be Green Book, a 2018 American biographical comedy-drama film. In 1962, Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South. They must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humour, they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

As always, dinner will be served at promptly at 6:00 p.m. in Steacy Hall, which allows time to converse with fellow participants over dinner before the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. If you plan to come for dinner, please register by phoning or emailing the ASW office at 613-725-9487 or by noon on Friday May 17th. If you are not able to attend at the last minute, please also inform the church office. There is no requirement to pre-register if you are just coming for the movie. The cost of dinner and movie is $10.00 or the cost for just the movie is $3.00.
