Movies with Meaning
April 24, 2019 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Dinner: 6:00 p.m., in Steacy Hall; Movie: 7:00 pm, in the Chapel.
Our movie for April will be The Woman’s Balcony, a comedy/drama (2016) with sub-titles. A bar mitzvah mishap causes a major rift in a devout Orthodox community in Jerusalem. While the mood is that of a gentle and affectionate comedy, the film makes some extremely sharp points about fanaticism, sexism masked as holiness, and tolerance among the faithful. This Israeli film provides many laughs to go along with its commentary on religious traditions and the power of women.
As always, dinner will be served promptly at 6:00 p.m., in Steacy Hall, which allows time to converse with fellow participants over dinner before the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. If you plan to come for dinner, please register by phoning or e-mailing the ASW office at 613-725-9487 or office@allsaintswestboro.com by noon on Thursday April 18th (Friday is Good Friday). If you are not able to attend at the last minute, please inform the church office. The cost of dinner and movie will be $15.00 for this evening as we will order a middle eastern meal. There is no requirement to pre- register if you are just coming for the movie, which remains at $3.00 for just the movie.
