Movies with Meaning

June 21, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Dinner, 6:00 pm, in Steacy Hall and Movie, 7:00 pm, in the Chapel.

This will be our last movie until fall. Our movie is Scarborough, which is adapted from Catherine Hernandez’s novel of the same name. It features three kids in a low-income neighbourhood finding community and friendship in a drop-in reading program, and follows these children as they navigate a system seemingly designed to shut them out. The film is long at 136 minutes, but the reviews say that the performances by the child actors are transcendent. This is a deeply empathetic portrait of people – children, mostly – just trying to survive the economic and societal circumstances forced upon them. It should be a good discussion!

Movies with Meaning is dependent upon the participation of the attendees in the preparation of the meals and organization of the evening. The planned meal for June will be cold cuts, salads, rolls and butter and ice cream.

If you plan to come for dinner, please register by contacting Helen in the office, 613-725-9487 or office@allsaintswestboro.com no later than noon on Friday, June 16th. This allows us to plan dinner for the number of people registered. The cost for dinner and a movie is now $20.00 and the cost of the movie only is $5.00.
